Helen Beard

Helen Beard, born in 1971 in Birmingham. Her practice, which includes collage, installation, needlepoint, painting and sculpture, is a celebration of female erotic experience.
Often using found imagery as a starting point, Beard works with vibrant colour fields and a range of view-points, from close-crops to wide shots, combining the quality of abstract formalism with succinct descriptions of moments of sexual intimacy.
In 2018, the artist’s work was included in the group show ‘True Colours’ at Newport Street Gallery, London. Beard’s solo exhibitions include ‘It’s Her Factory’ at Unit London (2019), ‘The Desire Path’ (2020) and ‘The Tulips are Too Excitable, It Is Winter Here’ (2023) at Reflex Amsterdam, NL. Her work has also been translated into a series of silkscreen prints, produced with Unit London Editions, Reflex Amsterdam and Paul Stolper Gallery, London.
In 2022, Beard was co-curator, with Maria Buszek and Alayo Akinkugbe, of ’Sensitive Content’ a group exhibition at Unit London that featured artists including: Betty Tompkins, Penny Slinger, Renee Cox and Linder Sterling.
Helen Beard lives in Brighton and works with Reflex Amsterdam, NL; Paul Stolper, UK and Unit London, UK.
