Alan Dimmick

Alan Dimmick is a Scottish photographer best known for his documentation of the contemporary art and music scene in Glasgow since the mid 1990s. He has captured many of the events that have come to shape a significant period in Scottish culture.
Born in Glasgow in 1961, Dimmick bought his first camera in 1977 before going on to study photography at Glasgow College of Building and Printing from 1979-82. He was a founding member of the Glasgow Photography Group, exhibiting at their inaugural exhibition in Hillhead Library in 1988. His early works were purchased by the People’s Palace, Glasgow and Scottish Arts Council in the 1980s. In 2007, an exhibition of his works was held at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow, and in 2012, his work documenting the Glasgow art scene was shown at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA).
More recently, his images have been included in various publications and have been the subject of exhibitions at institutions such as Street Level Photoworks, Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow and Stills: Centre for Photography in Edinburgh.
