Louise Giovanelli

Louise Giovanelli, born in 1993 in London, received her BA in 2015 from Manchester School of Art, and went on to study at Städelschule, Frankfurt, 2018–2020, under the tutelage of Amy Sillman.
Drawing her imagery from sources as diverse as Renaissance art, vintage film stills, and contemporary popular entertainers, Giovanelli’s intensely worked canvases, with their jewelled palettes and shallow pictorial space, often focus on the staging of rituals and performances (religious, theatrical, social).
Solo exhibitions of Giovanelli’s work include those held at Manchester Art Gallery, UK (2019); Workplace Foundation, Gateshead, UK (2019) and Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, UK (2018). The artist’s work has been featured in group exhibitions internationally including at; Hayward Gallery, London (2021); AkzoNobel Art Foundation, Amsterdam (2021); and The Art House, Worcester, UK (2019).
