Born in Virginia Beach in 1972, Ryan McGinness is an American artist working across painting, installation and sculpture.
McGinness combines disparate fragments of contemporary iconography and everyday signage, transforming them into expansive, psychedelic compositions. Balancing the precision of graphic design production techniques with vibrant colour, his work re-contextualises both corporate and Pop Art aesthetics and investigates the common impulse to locate meaning in seemingly abstract forms.
He has exhibited internationally and his work is held in various collections worldwide including MOMA, Cincinnati Art Museum and MUSAC. He currently lives and works in Manhattan, New York.
