Abyssogramme, 1983 by Boyd Webb

Best known for his large, surreal works, the New Zealand photographer moved to England in the early 1970s to study at the Royal College of Art.

His theatrical images are created using constructed sets and actors, not by photo manipulation. These curious pieces consistently play with the idea of the real and the imagined, puzzling the viewer and demanding further reflection.

Webb has exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand, Europe, and the USA. In 1995, he represented New Zealand at the Biennale of Sydney.
