A painting is an artwork which has been created using colour pigments on a surface such as canvas, board or paper. These pigments can be applied in wet form, such as oil paint or acrylic, or in dry form, such as pastels.
Tools used for the application of paint range from brushes to palette knives to the artist’s own fingers. Apart from these more or less traditional ways to administer the paint, there are also countless other methods, such as dripping and pouring.
A range of movements and painting techniques are covered in this collection, including the abstract works of Terry Frost and the screenprints of Pop Artist Andy Warhol.
