A new reflective phase in Emin's artistic career
The Last Great Adventure is You is Tracey Emin’s first solo exhibition at London's White Cube gallery in five years. It presents a more reflective chapter in the artist’s career, showcasing new works she has painstakingly developed over the past few years.
It includes a series of new bronze sculptures – her most significant body of work to date – alongside works on canvas, such as Good Red Love, 2014 (above), and large-scale embroideries and neon works.
As is her trademark, Emin’s personal experiences and inner thoughts form the basis of the work. When she began working on The Last Great Adventure is You, the ‘you’ originally referred to another person. However, as the body of work took shape, she realised she was in fact, once again, referring to herself.
Tracey Emin explains: “The work is about rites of passage, of time and age, and the simple realisation that we are always alone.”
The Last Great Adventure is You opens at White Cube Bermondsey on 8 October until 16 November 2014.
