Hylozoic/Desires

Hylozoic/Desires (Himali Singh Soin and David Soin Tappeser) is a multi-media performance duo whose work combines experimental poetry and improvisational jazz drums in order to, as the artists have described, “conjure borgesian, speculative futures or multiverses”.
Singh Soin’s poetic storytelling, which characterizes her texts, performances and moving image work, connects the spiritual cosmologies of her ancestral world with contemporary political and ecological realities. Musician David Soin Tappeser’s compositions and performances explore how perceptions of time affect our understanding of the current environmental, political and social crisis.
The work of Hylozoic/Desires has been shown internationally at 13th Shanghai Biennale, Biennale Gherdëina, Artist Film International (2021) and is included in the 2022 initiated exhibition ‘Actions for the Earth: Art, Care & Ecology’, curated by Sharmila Wood and produced by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York.
