Ben Johnson is best known for his paintings based on architectural spaces and his large-scale, intricately detailed cityscape paintings. He has depicted many iconic landscapes including panoramas of Hong Kong, Zurich, Jerusalem, Liverpool and, most recently, London.

Born in Llandudno, Wales in 1946, Johnson studied at the Royal College of Art and has lived and worked in London since 1965. He has been an Honorary Fellow at both the Royal Institute of British Architects and at Glyndwr University, Wales. In 2017, he was made a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in Wales.

Johnson has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, with notable shows held at the Southampton Art Gallery, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the Art Institute of Chicago. His works are also held in many public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Government Art Collection.
