Ian McKeever

Born in Withernsea, East Yorkshire, Ian McKeever RA began painting in 1969, following a degree in English Literature. His first solo show came four years later at the ICA, London. In 1989 he was awarded the prestigious DAAD scholarship in Berlin, and in 1990 the Whitechapel Gallery, London held a major retrospective of his work.
Until the mid-eighties, when his work became more abstract, McKeever’s paintings were landscape-based with photography being an integral part.
He was appointed Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy Schools from 2006-2011 and his work can be found in leading international institutions including the Tate, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
