Mitra Tabrizian is an Iranian-British artist and film-maker. Her practice is concerned with what we might call the ‘crisis of contemporary culture’ both in the West and East. Her subjects often depict ordinary individuals in everyday settings. Although capturing these familiar everyday scenes, her staging of subjects culminates in works which blur the boundaries between fiction and reality.
Her photographic work has been exhibited and published widely and is represented in major international museums and public collections, including the British Museum; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Smithsonian Institution, Washington; Los Angeles County Museum of Art and National Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland, Australia amongst others. Solo museum shows include Tate Britain, London (2008).
Her critically acclaimed debut feature Gholam (British/Iranian film, 2017) was released in UK in 2018- and will be distributed worldwide in 2019. Current projects, include The Insider, a short film with text by Booker Prize Winner, Ben Okri - commissioned to accompany Albert Camus’s The Outsider, adapted for the stage by Ben Okri.
