Catherine Yass is widely recognised for her distinctive photographic and film-based work. She typically manipulates her images using analogue photographic techniques.

Her artworks feature a range of subject matter from vacant urban spaces and monuments of the modern industrial age, to portraits of the people and institutions who commission her. Her photographic works are often shown illuminated on light boxes.

Catherine Yass lives and works in London. In 2002 she was nominated for the Turner Prize. Important solo exhibitions include Lighthouse at Alison Jacques Gallery and a mid-career retrospective at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea. She has undertaken a number of commissions including for The Jewish Community Centre, London and for New Art Gallery Walsall, with Richard Wentworth.

Her work is in collections around the world including Tate, Arts Council England and Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
