Exploring big ideas within limited studio space
Launching Jerwood Gallery’s 2017 programme, Keith Tyson: Turn Back Now presents the 2002 Turner Prize winner’s ‘Studio Wall Drawings’ - an ongoing series he began in 1997 as a way to explore big ideas in a very limited studio space.
The series builds on his rich, multifaceted practice, which encompasses painting, sculpture, drawing, machines and systems to explore a fascination with infinity, the nature of being, and the origins of life.
Mapping his daily existence, Tyson refers to the paintings as “somewhere in-between a sketchbook, a journal, a poem and a painting”.
An image of new work Between an Endless Wait and an Infinite Sleep..., 2017 (above), which features in the exhibition, will soon be available to license through Artimage.
