Art and Fashion

Art and fashion are undeniable forces to be reckoned with. With more designers clocking on to the power that art and fashion’s symbiotic union creates, we explore classic collaborations by our members, all in celebration of a brilliant London Fashion Week 2019 (15 – 19 February).

Albert Irvin x Henry Holland

This collaboration saw Albert Irvin’s colourful abstract artworks used in Henry Holland's 2018 'Resort' collection.

Inspired by a chance encounter between Albert Irvin RA and Henry Holland at the Royal Academy’s 2014 Summer Exhibition, the pair discovered a mutual interest in each other’s works. After correspondence, they agreed to work together. Following the artist’s death the following year, the Irvin Estate were keen to honour the artist’s agreement and work with Holland. Culminating in a selection of designs for the House of Holland’s 2018 Resort Collection, it included a distribution run of 1000 fashion pieces.

Hotel International 1997 Tracey Emin

Tracey Emin x Longchamp

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Longchamp’s infamous ‘Le Pilage’ bag in 2004, the fashion brand invited Tracey Emin to collaborate on an iconic collection. The collaboration resulted in 200 limited-edition bags, each made using some of Emin’s favourite techniques, - including textile, embroidery and painting – and finished with a signature rosette on which Emin added a handwritten note.
