James Richards: To Replace a Minute's Silence with a Minute's Applause
(Whitechapel Gallery)

James Richards To Replace A Minutes Silence With A Minutes Applause Front CoverThis book accompanies an exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery by artist James Richards, as part of a series of displays featuring artworks from Moscow’s V-A-C collection. Creating an immersive environment, James Richards presents Francis Bacon's Study for a Portrait with a sound installation of public silences – acts of mourning, remembrance, or suspenseful pauses in films. Edited by Omar Kholeif, the book includes contributions by Iwona Blazwick, David Toop and Barbara Dawson, as well as artwork by Francis Bacon, licensed through Artimage. Find out more.

Making Africa - A Continent of Contemporary Design
(Vitra Design Museum)

Making Africa A Continent Of Contemporary Design Vitra Front CovrAccompanying a major exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, this publication sheds new light on contemporary African design. Rather than focussing on the usual tropes of recycling, humanitarian design or traditional crafts, it highlights a new generation of designers and artists who use their work as a tool for economic, political and social change – including Yinka Shonibare MBE, whose artwork we licensed for inclusion in the book. The Long March of Pop: Art, Music, and Design, 1930–1995
(Yale University Press)

The Long March Of Pop Yale University Press Front CoverThis paradigm-changing book by Thomas Crow challenges existing narratives about the rise of Pop Art by situating it within larger cultural tides. Taking American folk culture as a starting point, he makes connections between the folk revival in music during the 1930s and 1940s, and the surfacing of folk art in the work of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, both of whom were closely associated with the emergence of Pop. The book includes works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Damien Hirst, licensed by Artimage. Find out more.
