The story of the BritArt revolution
Artrage! by Elizabeth Fullerton, chronicles the group’s rise to prominence from the landmark show ‘Freeze’, curated by Damien Hirst in 1988, to the Momart fire of 2004.
The revolutionary BritArt movement saw the Young British Artists (YBAs) break down barriers of elitism, awaken the public’s interest in contemporary art and thrust Britain onto the international art map.
Artrage! – named after a headline in The Sun when the notorious ‘Sensation’ exhibition opened at the Royal Academy in 1997 – includes 200 images of well-known artworks and many intimate and previously unseen photos of the YBAs by Johnnie Shand Kydd.
Artimage worked with publisher Thames & Hudson to license images by Jake and Dinos Chapman, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Rachel Howard, Abigail Lane, Marc Quinn, Georgina Starr and Sam Taylor-Johnson. DACS also oversaw the copyright licensing of other artworks in the book by Gary Hume, Marcus Harvey, Dan Perfect, Fiona Rae and others.
Artrage! is available to purchase from 25 April 2016. Find out more.
