This collection brings together a range of works through which modern and contemporary artists have explored the concept of history.
Some do so by documenting and representing contemporary events or scenes, such Richard Hamilton in Swingeing London ‘67.
Others, like Yinka Shonibare MBE and Hew Locke, take historical events and literary or mythological characters as their subjects, and use them to explore and question shared histories or common understandings of our past.
